(Undated) — Everyone in the WTYE listening area and across the state of Illinois is bracing for some hot and humid weather. The National Weather Service has issued an “Excessive Heat Warning” for the rest of the week and the weekend. The forecast is calling for daytime highs pushing into the mid 90’s with a “feels like” temperature in the 110-degree range. According to information from the CDC, high temperatures kill hundreds of people every year. Heat-related deaths and illness are preventable, yet more than 600 people die from extreme heat every year. Excessive heat can lead to sunburn, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke. If the person refuses water, vomits or begins to lose consciousness, call 9-1-1 or the local emergency number. For more potentially life-saving information, follow the link.
