Recents Storms Have Driven Gas Prices Higher

By Tony Collins Jul 23, 2024 | 6:44 AM

(Undated) – Recent severe weather has impacted gas prices for Illinois, Indiana, and surrounding states. According to GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis, Patrick De Haan, most of the country has seen a reprieve from rising gasoline prices, thanks to weaker-than-expected gasoline demand. However, severe weather completely knocked out power to a major refinery outside Chicago early last week, immediately impacting gasoline supplies to Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan pushing prices up considerably. De Haan says refineries are critical, and with a long power outage, we’re seeing the impact very quickly, but relief will eventually arrive. He says for now, as we approach the end of summer vacations, he’s hopeful gas prices will continue to edge slightly lower in the week ahead.
