(Undated) — Egg prices continue to soar as supply dwindles. According to data from the NIQ consumer research group the average cost for a dozen eggs in the U.S. has risen 50-percent in the last year. They say a standard carton costs $5.29 the week ending in January 18th compared to just over $3.50 for a dozen eggs one year ago. Experts say the main reason for the price surge is the bird flu which has infected many poultry farms. The USDA says over 13 million egg-laying hens have died or been slaughtered since December 2024 due to the bird flu outbreak.
