(Undated) — The Flu, COVID-19, and RSV are all spiking at the same time, and have been “somewhat crippling” for healthcare providers. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, the flu continues to be the most prevalent. Health officials say the rapid rise in cases are causing doctor visits for flu-related symptoms to reach their highest level in 15 years. Visits to providers for respiratory illnesses were close to eight percent last week. The CDC estimates there have been 24 million cases of the flu this season causing more than three-hundred-thousand hospitalizations and thirteen-thousand deaths. Illinois’ respiratory activity level, calculated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention moved up to High in late December, dipped to Moderate in January, and has now returned to High to start February.
