(Undated) — Health officials are stressing the importance of prostate cancer screening, especially those over fifty or with a family history of prostate cancer. According to a new study, those who avoid screenings face a forty-five percent higher risk of dying from the disease. That’s what an analysis of data from seven European countries shows. Experts say PSA screening and digital rectal exams can identify prostate cancer in the earliest stages when it’s most treatable. Researchers say getting tested can lower a man’s risk of death by twenty percent. The American Cancer Society says prostate cancer killed thirty-five thousand men in the U.S. last year, making it the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men after lung cancer.
