(Undated) — It’s “tax season” and the IRS is again warning the public to look out for scammers trying to steal your refund and identity. Luis Garcia from the IRS advises ignoring any emails and texts about your taxes. They may be tricks to get your personal information.
He recommends protecting your identity by setting up an identity protection PIN. Use strong, unique passwords for each online account, and never reuse passwords. Enable two-factor authentication whenever possible, and don’t share your passwords with anyone. Garcia says if you receive a letter, text, or email that looks like it’s from the IRS, you can confirm its authenticity at irs.gov. Just search for the letter, keywords, or form number you received.
