Gas Prices Could See “Deep Discounts”

By Tony Collins Sep 4, 2025 | 6:29 AM
(Undated) — We could be in store for “deep discounts” on gas as we march toward Thanksgiving. GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis, Patrick De Haan, says prices could dip as much as thirty cents a gallon.
According to De Haan, prices could also drop when refineries switch to cheaper “winter blends.” This typically occurs in mid-September or early October. The current national average for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.20. The statewide average here in Illinois is currently $3.50 a gallon. Across the Wabash in Indiana, it’s $3.24 a gallon.
