CCSO Issues Scam Warning

(Undated) — Crawford County Sheriff, Bill Rutan, took to social media over the weekend to issue a scam warning. According to the post, the CCSO has received multiple complaints about scam calls being received locally, stating that jury duty violations and warrants have been issued. The caller encourages the individual “in violation” to pay bond money immediately or report to the Sheriff’s Department to be booked in. Rutan says an important “red flag” to be aware of is that the individual is instructed to go to their bank, withdraw the necessary “bond money,” and then they are provided a transaction number that is to be entered into a Bitcoin machine. The scammer receives the money via Bitcoin. Rutan reminds the public to never give any personal information, and certainly not to pay any money. He says if you receive such a call, you are advised to hang up immediately.
