(Robinson) — The Robinson Police Department has joined the U.S. Secret Service Cyber Crime Task Force to combat “Cryptocurrency and Imposter Scams.” According to Robinson Police Chief, Eric Schmidt, the Robinson Police Department has seen a significant increase in these types of scams, particularly involving elderly victims. Schmidt says if you or anyone you know has been involved in a scenario where they were encouraged to send crypto to repair a computer virus, protect your money by depositing money at cryptocurrency ATMs, or encourage you to lie to a bank regarding your cryptocurrency purchase, it is more than likely a scam. He reminded the public that the Robinson Police Department will never request payment of any type to satisfy a warrant or ticket. If you have been the victim of any of these scenarios, do not hesitate to contact the Robinson Police Department.
