By Tony Collins Dec 22, 2025 | 6:34 AM

(Undated) — Ameren Illinois is focusing on natural gas safety here in the coldest time of the year. Whether it’s your furnace, stove, or other gas appliances, officials with the utility want you to be aware of what to watch out for and what to do if you suspect a leak. For example, if you smell something similar to rotten eggs, that could be a sign you have a leak. They say if you “catch a whiff,” you should leave the premises immediately and call Ameren Illinois. Then the professionals can determine if there is a leak, and if it’s coming from the infrastructure or one of your appliances. Ameren officials say you should always err on the side of caution and call if a leak is suspected.
