(Robinson) — The screens have gone dark at Eagle Theater. According to a post on the Eagle Theater Facebook page, from Eric Gubelman, the Robinson, Clinton, and Streator theaters have officially closed following years of financial struggles. In the social media post, Gubelman said, “There is rarely just one thing that shutters a small business’s doors, but a series of unfortunate events.” In December, the Crawford County Development Association announced the results of a “Sheriff’s Sale.” The court-ordered sale of the Eagle Theater property at 1802 N. Main Street was part of foreclosure proceedings. At the sale, Newtek Small Business Finance, LLC was the successful bidder for the property. The sale remains subject to court approval, and a hearing to confirm the sheriff’s sale is scheduled for January 14th in the Crawford County Circuit Court. The Eagle Theater first opened in February 2004.
