(Undated) – The current blast of winter weather brings a reminder to stay safe when heating your home. According to the National Fire Protection Association, half of home heating equipment fires are reported during December, January, and February. They say heating is the second leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries, and the third leading cause of home fire deaths. You are reminded to place space heaters on a hard, level, and nonflammable surface, establish a “3-foot kid- and pet-free zone” around the heater, and never put a space heater in a child’s room. Turn it off when you leave the room or go to bed, and unplug the heater when it’s not in use.
