(Casey) — Casey is the home of the first federally funded electric vehicle charging station in Illinois. State officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the station yesterday. The facility at the Mach 1 gas station at Illinois Route 49 and Interstate 70 was built through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program. Administered by IDOT using federal funds through the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act, the state’s “NEVI” program aims to accelerate the adoption of EVs by providing the public access to charging throughout the state. Officials say the new station will make travel by electric vehicle even more reliable and accessible in Illinois.
