(Oblong) — Oblong authorities are reminding residents about the rules for door-to-door solicitors. Oblong Mayor, Teresa Fielder, in a post on Facebook, says Oblong Police Chief, Colton Williamson, will always advise her of any solicitor permit and background checks he has done on any company wishing to solicit inside our Village limits, and she will always post that information, along with pictures, names, and times that are available for soliciting. Fielder says, at this time, the Village has no permits issued except for Conxxus. However, Fielder says it’s nearly impossible to stay ahead of the door-to-door solicitors because they often make a habit of coming later in the evening, staying for a few hours, then leaving, only to return later in a different area of town within the next day or two. She says that if they come to your door and you don’t wish to answer, don’t. If you wish to engage, you must know they do not have a permit to solicit and, always know, Ameren will never send employees door to door. If you feel threatened in any way, do not hesitate to call County Dispatch at 618-546-1515, and an officer can be dispatched to your location.
