Crawford County Sheriff Issues Scam Reminder

(Undated) — The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department has issued a “scam warning.” According to the Sheriff, Bill Rutan, scam callers are certainly working hard to steal from the community. He reminds the public to be “extra vigilant and be mindful” of suspicious calls. He encourages the public to let your loved ones, especially elderly family and friends, know not to fall for these scammers. If you receive a suspicious call, just hang up. Rutan says deputies have handled a recent influx of scam calls, including someone needing money to assist a “grandson” in need with bond and/or ankle monitoring, someone claiming to be a U.S. Marshall trying to get personal information and asking for money, and social security issues. Rutan says it is important for the public to remember that law enforcement officers will never ask you for money.
