James F. Wiman, 89, of Oblong, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 12:44 p.m. at his son’s residence.
Jim was born on December 15, 1936, in Robinson, Illinois, to Glen Wiman and Mabel Celia (McCoy) Wiman. He graduated from Oblong High School in 1955.
On August 30, 1969, Jim married Vera Jane Holstlaw. She preceded him in death on April 18, 1994.
Jim was a member of White Oak Christian Church in rural Oblong and later became a member of Oblong Evangelical Community Church in Oblong. Jim was a Jasper County farmer for more than 50 years and was a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau for 50 years. In his free time, Jim enjoyed horseback riding, later taking up motorcycle riding and eventually four-wheeler riding. His hobbies also included quail hunting, woodworking, and gardening.
Jim is survived by his son, Jeff (Jodi) Wiman of Oblong, Illinois; daughter, Beth (Randy) Meese of Robinson, Illinois; two grandchildren, Allison Meese and Jacob Meese, both of Robinson, Illinois; sister-in-law, Liz Stout of Olney, IL; brother-in-law, Dan Holstlaw of Olney, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vera Jane Wiman; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Charles Blair; father and mother-in-law, Van and Aileen Holstlaw; and brother-in-law, Frank Stout.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Pulliam Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Williams officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, the family has chosen the Crawford County 4-H and Extension Foundation, P.O. Box 712, Oblong, Illinois 62449, for memorial contributions. Honorariums may also be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home, P.O. Box 121, Oblong, Illinois 62449.
