ISP Issues Bus Safety Reminder

(Undated) — Illinois State Police continue to raise awareness about traffic safety around school buses. Public Information Officer, Ryan Wagand, says the penalty for stop arm violations could result in a one-year suspension of your license and a fine.
Wagand says the three biggest culprits in stop arm violations are distracted driving, being in a hurry, or not knowing the law. He reminds motorists that when approaching a stopped school bus with lights activated and stop arm extended, you must stop before reaching the bus. It is illegal in all 50 states to pass a school bus that is stopped to load or unload children.
