Relief at the Pumps May Remain “Elusive”

By Tony Collins Oct 27, 2026 | 5:52 AM

(Undated) — Average gasoline prices fell in a majority of states over the last week. GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis, Patrick De Haan, says diesel edged modestly higher nationally. He says with the national average for gasoline likely to remain above $4 per gallon and diesel above $6 heading into the U.S. election, the relief motorists and policymakers have been hoping for remains elusive. The current national average is $4.27 a gallon, largely unchanged from the end of the week.
